It was the summer of 2017 and 13 year old Olivia Goodreau was on vacation in Missouri with her family. Olivia was enjoying the outdoors with her dog Mo—short for Missouri—when she noticed a tick. Olivia and her mom watched as the tick began to attach itself to Mo’s leg. Using a pair of needle nose tweezers, Olivia properly removed the tick from her faithful friend and asked her mom, “Is there an app that can show what ticks are around us?”

Later, the same evening, Olivia discovered there was no such app. In that moment she was inspired to create TickTracker, an app to help keep everyone safe. Olivia has suffered from chronic Lyme disease and co-infections since she was 6 years old, she’s an advocate and founder of the LivLyme Foundation—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting the work of researchers and scientists who are dedicated to finding the effective treatment for Lyme disease and ultimately a cure. The LivLyme Foundation also provides assistance to children and their families struggling with Lyme disease through education and funding.

Olivia’s invention helps users to: Report tick sightings-n-bitings, track ticks in real time, and educate themselves on how to prevent tick bites. TickTracker features include:

  • Tick Map - Based on several data sources, including TickTracker, this feature provides real-time tick tracking and includes a severity index for the your local area.

  • Tick Sighting - See a tick? Log it and help track ticks in the places you frequent or visit.

  • Tick Removal - Learn how to remove a tick from a person or a pet, and document your encounter.

  • Tick Safety - Learn how to be proactive in helping to prevent tick bites on yourself and your beloved.

Olivia envisions a world without Lyme disease. Her goal is to learn where ticks are, and migrate to, in order to help educate and prevent against tick-borne diseases. TickTracker is one tool we can employ to help reach that goal.
